Those who want to upgrade their skills or acquire new ones that could help them advance their career, still have time to take advantage of the new summer classes offered at Western Colorado Community College.
Do you want to get started on a business certificate or a degree? Is early childhood education a career that interests you? What about welding, automotive technology, machining or wildland fire management?
Those are among the WCCC programs that have new classes starting on Monday, June 11. Some classes are online only and some in the evening as well as morning and afternoon classes. Each is intended to make it easier for prospective students to fit school into their schedules and to give area employers more options if they have employees needing to upgrade their skills, said Brigitte Sundermann, acting vice president of community college affairs at Colorado Mesa University.
“They just want more,” Sundermann said, referring to both students and employers. “They want more offerings at more convenient times with more options on the way classes are delivered and we are happy to provide more.”
This is the first time in its 25-year history that WCCC has offered so many summer options.
“One of the things we have heard from employers and students is they would like more than two start times a year so adding these summer class gives another option for starting a program and more flexibility,” she said. “It is extremely important that we respond to the needs of the community we serve.”
The programs with classes starting on Monday are applied business, construction – electrical, early childhood education, information and communication, land surveying and geomatics, manufacturing technology, transportation services
